Rocco Basciano was
born in Noepoli, in the province of Potenza, in 1948. Since 1966 he moved
to Milan and now has the study in Via Cascina Barocco 10 in Milan, where
also resides the association Arte Barocco. He has been able to use various chromes in assailing landscape memorially and structurally, in the wake of a modern lesson accepted and developed according to his own dreaming sensivity. So that already in 1977, at the time of a personal exhibition of his at the Sever Art Gallery in Milan, Antonino De Bono wrote, on the subject of his tangible, conscious autonomy as regards form-cum-colour: "The apotheosis of nature emerges
with an expressionistic impulse in the paintings of Rocco Basciano...the
painter plays upon contrasts to allude to the affront brought to bear upon
the landscape, making the demonic eros of its living forces thrown into
disorder by consumerist civilisation. He is full-bodied as regards colour,
crude in his greens and browns, dreamy in his greys and sky blues,
enigmatic and solemn in his reds and yellows, created by blotches and
chipped unpunctuated brushstrokes. He is dramatic and geological in the
clots thet make up the turf of his fields and the rocks rising
perpendiculary from the sea, essential and silent in the pantheistic orgy
of the running of water, that is exalted in a crescendo of poisonous moods..."
